There is nobody in control and that’s scarier then Orwell’s 1984
Orwell failed to see the darker danger of the system that we live in and in so doing created a straw man that distracts us. In some way having big brother at least having some control over the direction of technology is better then the rudderless ship we are on now. We are all just lemmings running out to sea on a long high plank. Sure, when your in the middle of the pack it all seems fine. The people on the margins that are falling of the sides of the plank, well too bad, they got unlucky. And so we ignore the millions of children that die from starvation. The millions of people who lose their jobs as they are replaced by technology. An economic system and a culture that can allow this to happen decade after decade is scarier then anything Owell ever described.
