The Current Walk of Life

We’re in difficult times post-election and during a sharp 2nd wave of the pandemic with colder weather soon approaching. There’s uncertainty in every current walk of life including lockdown schedules, business revenues, PPE, and holiday plans. It’s difficult to feel secure in business, life, or even with decision-making abilities. In a world this uncertain, what we can do is set an intention for the holiday season and upcoming year. Intentions set our focus and ground our motivations and priorities so that we act upon them with increased productivity.

I’m an idea person — I have been since my name went onto my 1st patent at age sixteen. Many times what separates a successful entrepreneur from those who wish to become one are the ideas this person decided to cultivate, develop, and pursue. You can’t change your life or help your community without moving dreams into the ‘action’ state. The pandemic may be the perfect opportunity in which to cultivate those ideas and develop your strategy. Pandemics end. Wouldn’t it be great if when this one ended, your new business venture was gearing up to be sent into the world?

One topic that often emerges with clients and acquaintances is their wish to write — whether for magazines, essays, or fictional novels. As deeply as we may wish to write, we often fail to set side the necessary time to create, compose, edit, etc. As an author of several books such as Optimizing America, Showdown in the Economy of Good and Evil, and an upcoming installment, The Big Solution, I know the time it takes to transform an idea into a reality. To move your writing goals forward, set aside time to ask yourself some questions.

What do I want to say?

What’s the best venue for me to do it within?

What’s my style? Who are my characters?

If non-fiction, what are the ways my words can help others?

What topics am I a soft expert on? On which topics am I comfortable speaking or being interviewed about?

What magazine or blog publishes this kind of material?

Be very specific. Begin your research and the writing itself. Save editing for the end. Don’t get caught up in self-doubt. Don’t lose your flow. Finish a draft before returning to edit and polish into its best self.
